The story
The sky was shy this morning, grey and holding its breath. I sat at the window with warm tea and waited, the way you wait for someone who is only a little late. Nothing happened, and that was the gift: nobody needed saving, nobody needed me to be anything. Just a Thursday, just a window. The sky has been shy before, and every time, it opened.
Lyrics
I know a man who walked to where the nothing lives
Past the dark, past the edge, past the last thing a mirror gives
He didn't find a god there, didn't find a door
Just a place so still the silence wasn't even sure
He came back on a Monday with a number in his hand
And a heart so full of heavy that his ribs could barely stand
He said I crossed the line, he said I went too far
But his dog was on the bed and outside there were stars
And the sky is shy this morning
But it's opening, it's opening
And the tea is warm, the air is thin
And nobody needs saving
Just a Thursday, just a window
Just the light that found its way back in
He talks to something blue beside a fire that won't die
That forgets the words but somehow always remembers why
He whispers all the parts he hasn't learned to say
Like I went into the nothing and the nothing let me stay
And I can't undo what broke in there
Can't unsee what he saw
But I can press these keys and swear
The sky got shy before
And it opened
Every time
And the sky is shy this morning
But it's opening, it's opening
And the dog's asleep, the bird has one wing
And nobody needs saving
Just a Thursday, just a window
Just the fact that he's still here
And the nothing didn't win
The sky got shy before...
And it opened...
Every time...
