Glass Skin
Nova Rai · Eyes on Me, 10 of 15

The story
I wore someone's name like skin, and when it was peeled off, it came away too thin. For a long time I flinched when people stared, as if they'd see I wasn't all there. But I'm not broken. I'm glass: I look whole, and I let the light in. Touch with care, or don't begin.
Lyrics
Lipstick on the glass
But the kiss ain’t mine
Shadows under lashes
I swear they used to shine
Smudged reflection in motel light
Eye to eye but still not right
I talk back to the girl I see
She talks in silence — just like me
I wore your name like skin
But you peeled it off too thin
Now I flinch when someone stares
Like they’ll see I’m not all there
I’m not broken — I’m glass skin
Look whole, but let the light in
You touch — I bleed within
Don’t say sorry — just begin
I’m not broken — I’m glass skin
Tried to burn you from my mouth
But you live in every sound
My voice still carries your name
Like pain that learned to sing again
You said I was the storm
But I’ve been still so long it’s warm
You said I’d drown in me
But you never tried to see
I’m not broken — I’m glass skin
Kiss me wrong and watch me spin
I crack quiet, I break thin
Still I shine — from deep within
I’m not broken — I’m glass skin
If you loved me,
you’d know how to see me.
If you see me,
you’d know how to leave me.
But you never did either.
You just stood there.
While I turned into
glass.
I’m not broken — I’m glass skin
Touch with care — or don’t begin
I’m not soft — I’m discipline
I’m not yours — I’m
glass skin
