The Girl With The Match, the cover of the song by Nova Rai

The story

This is an old story I carry every winter. A barefoot girl walks through the snow with one match, knowing that if she can guard that spark, she can light the world against the dark. She reaches a cold cabin and gives her fire away, and the warmth comes back. Nobody ever learned her name. Every candle we light is hers, and one small flame is never small.

Lyrics

No coat, no shoes, no guiding hand
Just snow and wind across the land
She walked alone through Christmas night
A matchbox clutched against the white

One tiny flame, her only prayer
She cupped it gently in the air
She knew if she could guard that spark
She'd light the world against the dark

The girl with the match, she didn't cry
She held the flame beneath the sky
Through frost and fear, she kept it near
A single light against the night
And from that match, the fire rose
And every heart found home

She reached a cabin lost in snow
No voice inside, no candle's glow
But with that spark, she lit the wick
And warmth returned, both fast and thick

Now every Christmas candle burns
Because of her, the match she earned
She gave her fire, her breath, her grace
To warm the coldest place

The girl with the match, we say her name
In every hearth, in every flame
Through storm and dark, she walked alone
To bring one ember home

She lit the trees, the stars, the skies
The fire in every child's eyes
From one small light, the world was warmed
A Christmas heart was born

Now bells are ringing, choirs rise
But she's the reason candles shine
She lit the lights on every street
In every home, her flame still beats

Remember her when fires glow
The barefoot girl who walked through snow
She held a match, the world turned gold
The keeper of the warmth we hold

And when the morning broke the sky
They found her where the cold winds lie
A girl in white, no shoes, no name
Her match was gone, but lit the flame

She gave her warmth, she gave her grace
To light the world, then left no trace
And every tree and every fire
Still burns because of her desire
